Goose Island, has won the fashion and accessories retailer category in the inaugural Welsh Independent Retail Awards, held in Cardiff on 26 October 2017.
The awards seek to recognise the value of independent retailers to the communities they operate within; showcasing the diversity within the industry, recognising and rewarding the entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen which lies behind the thriving Welsh independent retailers.
We were one of 10 finalists in their category, scooping the overall award on the night.
Established 20 years ago by Managing Director, Karen Hutchings, today Goose Island operates from a head office in Llansamlet, Swansea with two shops, in Cowbridge and Mumbles, and a third shop opening in Llandeilo in November.
In 2009, Goose Island expanded into the wholesale market selling its brand to retail fashion outlets in the UK and overseas. The business is also supported by two on-line platforms (retail and wholesale) in addition to the shops.
Since Goose Island was first set up, the company has built up a reputation for sourcing and providing quality fashion items that are different from those offered on the High Street.
Says Karen, “We are naturally delighted that Goose Island has been recognized in the first Welsh Independent Retail Awards, particularly as we were up against such stiff opposition and it came down to a public vote. We couldn’t have achieved everything we have done over the past 20 years without the commitment and dedication of our loyal staff and customers; so, I would like to dedicate this award to them.”
