If you’re young and slim, on holiday you can get away with spending the days in a skimpy bikini and the evenings in a short dress or short shorts! However, the more mature ladies among us may be OK to lounge in the sun in swimwear but we don’t want to be standing at the bar or sitting in a restaurant with just a swimsuit on.
So how can we pack a capsule wardrobe to go on our summer holidays whilst still ensuring we have items that we feel both cool and comfortable wearing?
You don’t want to wear neutral colours when you are looking bronzed and tanned so we recommend you take bright separates to wear during the day; and for the evening pack neutral bottoms that can carry a rainbow of tops. That way you can create a completely different combination every night.
Daytime capsule holiday wardrobe
One quick tip is to leave a note in your suitcase after your previous holiday to remind you of what you did and didn’t wear. This helps to cut down quite dramatically for this year’s holiday packing. For the daytime, you should focus on the items that you know you’ll be happy to throw on repeatedly when it’s hot to cover up when you need to.
An ideal cover up for any occasion is this denim lace tunic (left) that looks fabulous with linen trousers or to slip on over swimwear. There’s nothing better than white for showing off a tan and this cotton top with feather tie (centre) is not only pretty but is ideal to slip on over shorts if you’re having a wander around the shops or popping to the beach bar for a quick snack. One of the simplest items to pack which takes up very little space but is extremely versatile is a pareo (also known as a sarong). After being in swimwear all day you may prefer to wear something loose and relaxed, particularly if you tend not to go to places where smart dressing is required. Choose tops in cool fabrics that will mix and match with plain skirts and trousers so you have more than enough options for a 14-night holiday. You can also keep it casual with flat sandals and a mix of simple gold and silver jewellery.
